Well the day many have been waiting for is finally here!! The New iPad is being released.  Yes, it is call the New iPad, not the iPad 3.

There are lines outside Apple Stores everywhere. Some people can’t wait to get their new iPad, others just want to see it.  Most stores are only letting 20 people in at a time.

In San Francisco’s Union Square people are standing in the rain.

In many places, crowd control is in place to help maintain order.  New York City’s Grand Central station is probably one of the biggest releases, with over 750,000 visitors on a normal day and over 1,000,000 (1 million) visitors on holidays, Grand Central station is used to crowds.

So Apple needed to take extraordinary measures to control the crowds that started forming last night.  Here are a few of the steps they took: 1) special lines thru the corridors of Grand Central Station, 2) an up next waiting area for the next small group to be let in, 3) special bracelets to prove you waited on line, 4) Apple employees entertaining people on line by answering questions and showing them accessories, and 5) security officers:  NYPD, K-9 units, MTA officials, and a special private security service!

Most people thought it went very well – “extremely impressive”.  Some even were happy since they only had to wait a little over an hour to get in.

Have you gotten your new iPad yet?

Cheers,

PS  Don’t want to wait on line?  I just noticed ads for line sitters.  People have been selling their place on line or their willingness to wait online for $250 – $500.
